Heart-Check Certification
The American Heart Association (AHA) added a liquid vegetable oils category to its Heart-Check Food Certification Program, including pure canola, olive and corn oils as well as corn oil blends containing at least 4 grams per serving of corn oil. Only these vegetable oils have been approved for the program due to having qualified health claims relating to reduced risk of heart disease authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In order to be eligible for the program, foods must meet government regulatory requirements for making a heart disease health claim. The Heart-Check mark on product labels makes it easy to identify heart-healthy foods in the grocery store.
In addition to the AHA, major health organizations recommend canola oil as a healthy source of fat for cooking, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Diabetes Association and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
