The NCRP in the south Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida is dedicated to developing superior winter cultivars and learning how to manage them. Since its inception in 1994, the breeding program at the University of Arkansas, whose objective is to develop regionally adapted winter genotypes, has released two germplasm lines and one variety. The breeding program is concentrating on high yield potential and winter hardiness.
